Pretending not to eat leftovers

What I’ve been eating recently:

  • My coworker and I made momos over video chat last weekend, with her Nepalese husband walking me through everything they were doing. I wish I had a recipe to write down, or more pictures from the event. But it was pretty rushed to keep up with them. Maybe I’ll try to jot down what I put in, but I really didn’t measure anything, not even the dough…

  • Noah is teaching a pasta class on Zoom for school wellness event in a few days, and we test piloted the recipes last weekend. Since I worked on it, I’ll probably post it after the class is over.

  • Leftovers for days: I made way more momo filling than peel, and I got tired of folding. Noah also thought he messed up the pasta dough on the first try, but I convinced him to save it. So I fixed up the pasta dough, blitzed the momo filling into more of a meatball texture and made some tortellini. I served them Afghan mantoo style, in a sauce based on leftover achar+leftover pasta cream sauce.

  • I also eventually got sick of folding tortellinis, and called it a day. For the rest of the pasta dough, I just made noodles and, turned momo filling into a meat sauce, finished with some leftover cream sauce.

Miraculously we ate all our leftovers. Normally we probably would’ve gotten bored and eaten out by now, but we’re not really comfortable getting take out too often these days either. It helped to eat it in different forms.

I bought crab because I really wanted to make this crab omelet roll from the Japan cookbook but upon further reading it’s not even a recipe. I made a lazy ponzu with powdered dashi and bottled yuzu juice hah. The rest of the crab, I made into crab salad and put onto bread that Noah made. I’m so sick of bread now. I miss noodles and rice and Asian food.

With the leftover pita dough and leftover braised brisket, I formed them into bao type things that I pan fried. Same flavors different format, felt like a whole different dish.

I’m kind of ready to eat crappy Chinese food or kbbq.

This week… Matzo ball soup!
